When Your Child is Sick: An Early Morning Parenting Journey

It’s 3:44 in the morning, and our little princess is really unwell. She’s been vomiting and dealing with diarrhea all day and night. We’ve done everything we can to keep her hydrated, but it feels like we’re losing the battle. At one point, she tried to vomit, but there was nothing left in her tiny stomach.

My wife made the call: it’s time to head to the ER. We need the experts to step in, give her IV fluids, and provide whatever treatment she needs to fight this vicious virus. As parents, we’re doing everything in our power to help her win this battle.

Meanwhile, my mind is racing with all kinds of thoughts, some rational and others purely fueled by worry. But one thing is clear—when it comes to your child, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Yes, I’m trusting God to see us through this, but I also know we have to do our part.

Through it all, I’m reminded of the power of faith and gratitude. Thank you, God, for keeping her and protecting her. I know this moment will pass, and I’m holding on to Your grace and mercy.

As I’m writing this, my wife is busy packing everything our daughter might need—like she’s preparing for a summer visit to Grandma’s house. That’s the kind of love and care mothers have, always thinking three steps ahead, even in the middle of chaos.

Parenting, I’ve realized, is truly an adventure. It’s a mix of love, fear, faith, and action, all rolled into one unpredictable journey. Right now is just another chapter, and while it’s tough, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

For every parent out there facing a similar moment, hang in there. Trust your instincts, trust God, and know that you’re doing your very best. This too shall pass.
