Wife Not Home: Finding Peace in Solitude

On Tuesday, my wife and daughter left for St. Lucia to attend her sister’s grandmother’s funeral. It’s Thursday now, and I can honestly say I’ve been living in what feels like “home alone heaven.”

With the house to myself and no work until Saturday, I’ve had the rare luxury of setting my own schedule—going to bed whenever I please and waking up without alarms or interruptions. The peace and tranquility I’ve experienced these past few days are truly priceless.

While I’ve indulged in relaxation, I’ve also been surprisingly productive. Without the usual distractions, my routine has been streamlined: wake up, wash up, grab something to eat, and head straight to my computer. I’ve checked off some major tasks from my to-do list, things that had been lingering for weeks.

This time alone has made me wonder: is this why so many authors and creatives retreat to secluded spaces to finish their work? There’s something deeply energizing about having uninterrupted time to focus—it feels like a luxury, one I know won’t last long.

My family returns on Sunday, and while I’ll be thrilled to see them, I plan to savor every moment of this solitude over the next three days. Whether it’s tackling more projects or simply enjoying the quiet, I’m determined to make the most of it.

For now, I’m embracing the bliss of being home alone. It’s not just about the freedom—it’s about the opportunity to reconnect with myself. And honestly? It feels like heaven.
