Is Valentine’s Day a Young Person’s Sport?

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and this year, I’ll be spending it solo. With my wife away, I thought about going out to support a friend’s event, but instead, I’ve decided to stay home and embrace the luxury of solitude.

As I think about the day ahead, I can’t help but reflect on who we see celebrating Valentine’s Day. Restaurants will be packed with couples on romantic dates, but I rarely notice older couples in the mix. It seems like Valentine’s Day is dominated by young couples, brimming with fresh excitement and enthusiasm.

So, is Valentine’s Day a young person’s game? Do older couples just skip the hype? Maybe they’ve been together long enough to believe in the idea that every day is Valentine’s Day. Perhaps they’ve traded the flowers, chocolates, and prix-fixe dinners for a quieter, more understated way of expressing love—or maybe they just don’t feel the need to “do the most” anymore.

What do you think? Is Valentine’s Day as special as it’s made out to be, or is it all just overhyped? Do older couples still dress up and head out, or are they enjoying the evening in a different, more relaxed way? And for the OGs who do celebrate—where are they hiding?

Let me know your thoughts. Is Valentine’s Day for everyone, or is it really a young person’s sport?
