When your wife is St. Lucian and a certified carnival enthusiast, it’s only a matter of time before you find yourself immersed in the magic of St. Lucia Carnival. In 2023, after months of seeing her light up at all the amazing Carnival content, she made the call: We’re going.
At the time, I was cool with it—after all, I’d never been to St. Lucia before. I wasn’t a big Carnival head then, but I’m always down for a great trip, good vibes, and a party. So, we booked a gorgeous Airbnb by the marina in Rodney Bay, grabbed our flights, scored tickets to the best fêtes, and locked in costumes. To top it off, we flew in her parents as our VIP babysitters for our daughter so we could fully indulge in the Carnival experience.
First Impressions of St. Lucia
From the moment we landed, I could feel the vibe. St. Lucia is the kind of place that grabs you immediately—lush, vibrant, and buzzing with energy. We linked up with my wife’s sister, who was taking the week off work just to join in the Carnival madness. Fun fact: her favorite song that year, “Clock Out,” was not only a hit but went on to win Soca Monarch and dominate the road. Perfect timing!
Our Airbnb was a dream—located in a gated community just a short walk from the beach, it had everything we needed to unwind. A few days later, my in-laws landed, which meant we were officially free to dive headfirst into the Carnival festivities.
The Fêtes: Where It All Begins
If you’ve never been to a St. Lucia Carnival fête, let me tell you, it’s a world-class experience. Two standouts for me were the Remedy Cooler Fête and a Indulgence Breakfast Fête—both packed with beautiful people of all ages, dressed to impress, and ready to party. The energy was contagious, the music electric, and the vibes unmatched.
The Road: A Carnival Dream
Then came the highlight of it all—the road. We jumped with Just 4 Fun Band, and it was pure bliss. Imagine thousands of people, decked out in dazzling costumes, cups in hand, moving in sync to the pulsating rhythms of soca. Every so often, we’d hydrate, refill our drinks, or grab a bite to eat. And then there was the Bum Bum Wall—a legendary spot where the ladies showcased their moves. Let’s just say, it was a moment I’ll never forget.
For two days, we danced, laughed, and lived on a Carnival high. It was euphoric.
Exploring St. Lucia’s Beauty
After the festivities, we took some time to explore the island—and let me tell you, St. Lucia is breathtaking. The island’s mountainous terrain and cliffside roads offer stunning views that photos can’t do justice. Seeing the island up close and personal was the perfect way to wind down after such an incredible week.
Why I Keep Coming Back
Suffice it to say, St. Lucia Carnival blew me away. It wasn’t just a trip; it was an experience that stayed with me long after we left. So much so that I made a vow to return every year. And out of that promise, St. Lucia Carnival Summer Escape was born.
